In the navy

Hmmm, I think I have an idea how this ad was done. First they got the Jean-Paul Gaultier marine outfits, then they got an expensive photographer, they remembered to insert digitally the product (the buildings that is) in the backdrop, and then they told some poor copywriter to "come up with a line that fits this" - that creative soul tried its best with an ad that was finished and came up with two maritime linked words "Dive" and "Anchor" - both exceptionally unfitting. But what the heck, the client was only looking at the photo anyway.

Dear Mr. Chemaly,

To be prompt and to the point, it is only basic to point out that criticism is only useful when constructive. Now, if you created this blog as a showcase of attempted sarcasm and irony, I'm afraid worldwide comedians and even the Simpsons are a far better reference.

Do take my remark positively: your misplaced cynicism is dangerously reflecting a small man hiding behind his monitor and awaiting empowering comments to irrelevant mockery.

On that note, I'd love to see some of your latest work and perhaps post a comment - an objective one of course!

The question remains: can you handle being under the microscope for change?

Food for thought...

P.S: I did not work on the campaign, just a fan of well-placed criticism.

There is no way I can compete with the Simpons! Way too funny...

... "your misplaced cynicism is dangerously reflecting a small man hiding behind his monitor and awaiting empowering comments to irrelevant mockery."

I do not think this is misplaced cynicism - I worked in advertising since 2001 and I know how ads are created. Obviously this one had the headline inserted afterwards.

"I'd love to see some of your latest work and perhaps post a comment - an objective one of course!"

Well, you ARE seeing some of my latest work!... You just commented on it.... And that was objective enough....

... "can you handle being under the microscope for change?"

I AM BEING UNDER THE MICROSCOPE!... My God, every book I release is there for you to review, every post I do on this blog is freely open to discussion. There is not even a comment moderation.
Now here's my question to you: IF YOU ARE SO NON-CYNICAL AND OBJECTIVE HOW COME YOU ARE SO ASHAMED OF YOUR VIEWS SO AS TO POINT THEM ANONYMOUSLY? I am sure you have a name. Share it and be "under the miscroscope"....

Dear Mr. Anonymous,
do you think that your AD is a good one?

You're very sharp and correct on one point, I must admit: The Simpsons are indeed miles ahead.

As for the anonymous post, we do live in a high car bombing risk country.

My post was subjective in tackling your method.

My objective post about this Ad is that it is fresh and relevant, selling homes in a city by the sea. It delivers the client's needs and triggers interest in the project.

Looking forward to reading your book collection. Will keep you posted with my comments on those.

Have a great day!

Newsflash: It is not me who brought the Simpsons issue up, it is you. So no need for "objective and constructive" sarcasm there....
Now, I don't get it: You think I am going to blow your car if I know who you are?... Well, that's kind of cheap in terms of thinking! One of the major aims of Beirut/NTSC is to promote healthy talk, and to "agree to disagree" about matters in a very civilized way... Really, that was a very hurtful remark.
I am happy you liked the ad, and I hope you have enough money to buy one of the appartments being advertised. I am sure since you had your interest "triggered" you already phoned the project to inquire about prices, availability and other details. Unless of course, you already know those details because they were in the brief of your client to begin with.... :)

To close up this very "healthy" Beirut/NTSC discussion, the car bombing remark was a metaphor - perhaps too subtle.

Once more, do review your initial post and try re-confirming your "promote healthy talk, and to agree to disagree about matters in a very civilized way." very touching statement.

And as a founder of this blog, try and be the moderator - for a change.

Cheers,

Anonymous.

Well, you are too smart for me... I can't make head or tail of what you are saying in this last reply. But as they say in cinematographic terms: It's a wrap!
