Mount Ararat in Lebanon

(c) Gilber Hage
Even though the exhibition closed, I felt that mentionning the superb work of photographer Gilber Hage is an imperative with his "Eleven views of Mount Ararat" - a tribute to the Armenian community here in Beirut. The show took place at Espace Naila Kettaneh Kunigk and came packed with a visual study of what it is to be an Armenian in Lebanon, where you belonging is mitigated between two geographies, and two time lines, as well as a nostalgic and romanticized version of a past being diluted in a day-to-day present.

I heard about this exhibition, but I never knew where it was taking place, only to find a week later that is was very close my workplace.

Ararat, the mountain that many Armenians cherish, and want it back from Turkey.
